What Candy Teaches Us About People and Ideas

Have you ever poured a handful of colorful Skittles into your palm?
Some are sweet, others sour.
Some surprise you, some disappoint.
Your thoughts.
Your moods.
Your relationships.
They all come in different “flavors.”
We often feel the need to accept every idea that crosses our mind…
To entertain every person who enters our space…
To treat every emotion as equally true or urgent…
But just like candy, it is not necessary to like all of the flavors.
Some people are sweet and nourishing.
Some are intense but still enjoyable in small doses.
Some simply don’t suit your taste and that’s okay.
The key is learning to sort without guilt.
Without judging.
Just noticing.
Without rejecting with resentment.
Just choosing with clarity.
Choose what brings you energy.
Say no to what drains you.
Reflect on what’s been helpful and what hasn’t.
Decide what you want more of and what you’re ready to release.
This isn’t about being cold or closed. It’s about being conscious.
You don’t owe space in your life to every passing ‘Skittle’.
Who are the people in my life right now?
Which of them bring out the best in me?
Who feels “sweet,” who feels “sour,” and who drains my energy?
Am I holding on to someone out of habit, guilt, or fear of letting go?
Who truly supports me and who subtly competes, manipulates, or criticizes?
Who needs more of my presence and who needs clearer boundaries?
You are the one holding the Skittles.
You are the one with the power to sort.
Not every idea is worth your energy.
Not every emotion needs a reaction.
Not every person deserves a front-row seat in your life.
Sorting is not rejection.
Sorting is self-respect.
So the next time life feels like an overwhelming colorful mix…
Pause.
Sort.
Choose.
THINK ABOUT IT…

Love this!! We should always surround ourselves with people who uplift us! Going where our energy grows and where we feel honesty and transparency is the right move even if takes us a while to decide.
